How can we understand the patterns, regularities, and irregularities that are present in the sentences of a language? This course will introduce you to transformational approaches to generative syntax, focusing on X' theory and Minimalist approaches to classic and modern problems for syntactic analysis. In addition, your semester project will be to undertake a project investigating a small facet of the syntax of a lesser-spoken language with a native speaker of that language.
