Section Information for Fall 2017
In this course, we will examine major events and processes in world history between 1200 and the present. We will focus on the changing nature of global interactions, involving Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Major topics in this course include global trade, colonialism, the development of nation-states, and technological development leading to and beyond industrialization. Students will practice historical skills by evaluating primary and secondary sources and forming arguments about the past. By the end of the semester, students should grasp major trends underlying eight centuries of world history and better understand the practice of historical research and writing.
