Term Assistant Professor

Brian Hsu received his Ph.D in Linguistics at the University of Southern California in the summer of 2016. His research focuses on the sources of word order variation and on the interfaces of syntax and phonology.  His dissertation work in theoretical syntax investigates the pronunciation of head movement chains, second position effects, and cross-linguistic variation in the realization of functional projections. His research has also examined the relationship between the domains of phonological processes and morpho-syntactic structures.  Before teaching linguistics at George Mason University, he was a French language instructor during his graduate studies.
